Black cardamom is a popular Indian spice. It is also known as badi elachi or kali elachi. Like its cousin, green cardamom, it is used as a spice in the same manner. It adds a uniquely different flavour and smell to the dishes and is used in many signature indian cuisine including but not limited to curries, biryani, kalyas, kormas, etc. Black cardamom is used in its original form which is a seed pod, dark brown to black in colour. It takes on a smokey flavour due to the way it is dried.
